Patrick Grier

Patrick GrierPat immigrated to Australia from Rhodesia in 1980. He became Sales Manager at Reckitt & Coleman and General manager at Revlon Australia. He moved into health care by becoming the Manager of Charles Wentworth Private Hospital which subsequently was awarded Hospital of Excellence by the Private Hospitals Association.

Joined Ramsay Health Care as Operations Manager in 1987 and soon after became the CEO. At that time Ramsay Health Care had eight hospitals and a turnover of approximately $200 Million. Through his leadership, strategic direction and the development of both a highly efficient operation and a special culture born in the early tough times of the organisation called the Ramsay Way – Ramsay Health Care has become one of the most successful health care organisations in Australia. Today it has over one hundred hospitals in Australia, Indonesia and the United Kingdom and has a turnover of approximately $2.7 Billion. Since floating in 1988 the company has had a return on shareholders’ funds of over 500%. He has been one of the leaders in developing the role of the private hospital sector and has been one of the main architects of the balanced health care system of Australia. Ramsay Health Care has become the leader in private hospital medical teaching, nurse training, research and clinical trials.

He has been the Chairman (twice) and President of the Private Hospitals Association of Australia. He retired as CEO of Ramsay Health Care in July 2008 and is on the Boards of Ramsay Health Care, Prime Television, Careers Australia, The Intensive Care Foundation, Research Australia and the Advisory Committee of the University of NSW Faculty of Medicine. He is also the Chairman of the Australian Health Workforce Institute.
