Sue Hanley

Sue HanleySue specialises in executive, career and developmental coaching.  She has thirty years experience as a leader in dynamic, complex and challenging organisations where the pace of change is extreme.   However, her first job was as a bus conductor, her second as a teacher, her third as an officer in the British Merchant Navy.

Sue found her vocational purpose when she jointed TAFE NSW as a teacher and went on to become the Faculty Director of Business Studies and Director of TAFE colleges across NSW, her last formal role being Director of Randwick TAFE College.  Sue also spent some time working in the NSW Premier’s Department as a Program Review Director, during which time she conducted full organisational reviews of the Anti-Discrimination Board, Public Trustee and Office of Protective Commissioner and presented change management programs to the Premier and Cabinet Office.  In all these roles, Sue experienced the full impact of leading large and diverse teams through turbulent re-structures and tightening resource constraints.

With significant direct line management experience, Sue has also participated at senior Board level, including the Board of the Sydney Institute of TAFE, the Illawarra Area Health Services Board, and the Board of Adult Education.  She was a Councillor on Shoalhaven City Council for four years, at the same time as being the President of the Jervis Bay Protection Committee where Sue led the successful national campaign for the creation of a Jervis Bay Marine Reserve and National Park.  This was a difficult but deeply collaborative project, which involved working with extraordinary people and, in particular, forging a deep connection with local Aboriginal leaders.

All Sue’s roles have been purposeful and values centred.  Her signature strengths include a love of learning, curiosity and courage, with a sense of deep gratitude for all the experiences and relationships she has enjoyed.

As an adult learner Sue has gained a Masters in Organisational Coaching from Sydney University, a Master of Arts (Management) from the University of Technology, Sydney, a Graduate Diploma in Multicultural Education from the University of New England, and a Diploma of Teaching (Adult Education) from the University of Technology, Sydney.  Sue is an accredited practitioner of the Myers Briggs Type Indicator, the Strong Interest Inventory, Spiral Dynamics, Future Search and Transpersonal Coaching (with Sir John Whitmore and Niran Jiang.)  She is highly experienced in the use of 360’ feedback instruments.

Sue lives with her family in Darlinghurst, Sydney and is active in the local Kings Cross community.  Sue is also President of the NSW Branch Leadership Team of the International Coaching Federation.
